I am interested in experimenting with MINIX. I have a Mac IIci (bought for my wife, a graphic artist) but might consider buying a PC exclusively for use with MINIX (no interest in MS-DOS). I have skimmed AST's book (1987 ed) in the bookstore and just recently started to read this newsgroup. 1) Is the 1987 edition the latest edition of the book? If not, how different is the latest version of MINIX (v1.5.10 ?) from what is covered in the book? 2) What are the tradeoffs between getting a PC for MINIX or waiting for the upcoming version for the Mac? 3) If a PC makes sense, how compatible a PC is required? Would a 80286, 12Mhz clone be likely to work? Is it a logical choice? 4) As I don't have direct connection to internet (ftp), how much trouble will it be to find out about and get a hold of, all the wonderful minix source I have been reading about in this newsgroup?
