Hello *, I am trying to keep my system more and more permanently running. That means I have to have 'cron' doing things for me. First it starts uucico three times a day to my uucp-host for mail, which works great. Then it start atrun every 15 minutes, which doesn't work so great (see below). That is it, it doesn't do more, but .... I have only a 640kB machine, with a 70 RAM disk (for /bin). Normally there is /etc/getty (on /dev/console), /etc/update and /usr/bin/cron running. When I do make of one or the other package nearly the whole of the ram is used, leaving nothing for cron to run its childs in. When cron wants to do so anyway, it either jams, but stays in RAM, or it disappears completely from RAM. No messages either way. That is very unpleasant :-(. Then when I run (as 'baron', no privileges) the following command sequence: at 0200 ls > duck ^D I get in the cronlog the message "duck: cannot create", which is very unhandy too, because I _have_ to regulate my large jobs (eg long makes or comic) for them not to obstruct each other or the uucp-connection during the night. The Questions (A bonus for the first to answer) a. Does anyone have the same problems and what is her remedy against it? b. Is there a more robust cron.c available or is it my own fault? c. Is this the ways at/atrun should work or do _I_ do something wrong? For extra info: My wiesje.mug.hobby.nl is a 8088 8MHz IBM XT-clone with 640kB and 20MB HD. ls for the apropriate files gives: -rwsr-xr-x 1 root sys 10752 Apr 29 17:49 /usr/bin/at -rwxr-xr-x 1 bin sys 6780 Apr 29 17:49 /usr/bin/atrun -rwxr-xr-x 1 bin sys 10166 Jul 14 22:59 /usr/bin/cron Met vriendelijke groeten, Wim 'Blue Baron' van Dorst ------------------------------------------------------------------ Blue Baron = Wim van Dorst, voice (+31) 074-443937 and 02152-42319 baron@wiesje.mug.hobby.nl and tgcpwd@urc.tue.nl "This sentence have three erors." ps.
