I am currently running IBM Xenix 1.0 on a vintage IBM PC/AT (6 MHz, 2 MB memory, 32 MB hard drive, 360 KB and 1.2 MB floppies). The system meets most of my needs as a computer hobbiest save one: it is quite difficult, if not impossible, to tinker with the kernel or write new device drivers because of its limited low level documentation. I run UUCP full time on the system for e-mail distribution and do some UNIX application porting. I want to keep the hardware platform and am considering switching to MINIX because of the source availability and because of this discussion forum. What are the plusses and minuses of switching from IBM Xenix 1.0 to the current release of MINIX from Prentice-Hall for the PC/AT? -- piziali@convex.com (Andrew J. Piziali)
