[comp.os.minix] MINIX on a PS/2 model 80

norm@hpfcdq.HP.COM (Norm Gee) (07/16/90)

I am trying to get MINIX running on an IBM PS/2 model 80. I don't
know if it is even possible, but maybe some of you out there
have succeded in doing so, or could perhaps give me an idea of what
I need to do. The situation is this:

I have an IBM PS/2 model 80 with a single 3.5" floppy drive and a
40MB hard drive. I purchased MINIX 1.3 from P-H recently, and have it
up and running on a machine at work. I noticed that one of the options
at boot time is to :

u start MINIX on PS/2 Model 30, U.S. keyboard (root file sys in drive 0)

When I use this option on the model 80, the disk drive light for the 3.5"
drive turns on, but the disk is not accessed, and the machine hangs there
until switched off.

Does anyone know why MINIX doesn't work on model 80's? (Or, has anyone
succeeded in getting it to work on one? If so, what did it take to get
it running?)

At the "Boot time" menu, I tried checking the root file system floppy using
the menu option, and it seemed to check out just fine.

I would appreciate any help in this area.

Thanks,

Norman Gee ( norm@hpfcdq.hp.com )
