I have recently updated from minix 1.1 to 1.5.3. I'm now trying to apply 1.5.5 patches, but ran into troubles in the kernel directory. The diffs in 1.5.5 don't match my files. The 1.5.0 crcs all match, but I found no diffs for kernel from 1.5.3 upgrade. So, I suppose that I am missing the 1.5.3 kernel diffs ? If anybody out there knows where to get those kernel diffs from, please help. Thanks in advance, Ari Suutari, ats@lut.fi ari@hilti.lpr.carel.fi Lappeenranta, Finland

The BEST way to upgrade from 1.3 to "current" (1.5.10) is with Andrew "Noid" Cagney's upgrade kit. Seriously. It simply cuts the number of steps down, and eliminates problems like Ari has encountered. Even if you're going from 1.5.0 to 1.5.10, it might be worth going back to 1.3. > The 1.5.0 crcs all match, but I found no diffs for kernel from > 1.5.3 upgrade. There were various mess-ups in the 1.5.x series; I recall one where there were no kernel diffs, and another where the diffs were made off of a beta-only version rather than one that was released. > If anybody out there knows where to get those kernel diffs from, > please help. PLEASE!! Look at all the archive sites before asking this quesiton! You'll only get an answer of "look in the archive sites" (unless there's someone out there with a LOT of spare time who is acting as a human archive server) Every archive site containing Minix bits that I know of (i.e. that has told me of their existance) is documented in the Minix Information Sheet's section on Archive Sites. They're all over the place. -- Glen Overby <overby@plains.nodak.edu> uunet!plains!overby (UUCP) overby@plains (Bitnet)
