Howdy all... after many hours of compiling, compressing, etc., I'm nearly ready to make this upgrade kit available. I've got a question tho... How many of you folks running ST Minix are running without a hard drive? Or, with only one floppy drive? Worse yet, with only 1 single-sided floppy drive? This upgrade package is 2.5 megabytes, compressed with 13 bit compress. You need about 6 megabytes of space for the end result. I can try to package things for the benefit of floppy users, but right now it's set up to be installed on a hard drive, and I think that's the only way it's really practical to do things. Ideally you'll also have at least 2 meg of RAM, so you can put the compiler into the RAMdisk, otherwise this will be a very very slow upgrade process for you. (It took around 5 hours to perform on my 16MHz Mega-4. I've performed the upgrade twice now, to insure that my kit will work properly. It's been Quite An Experience....) The result seems worth it, tho. Things look pretty nice. At any rate... I'm not planning to address the issue of floppy- based upgrades... -- -- Howard Chu @ University of Michigan one million data bits stored on a chip, one million bits per chip if one of those data bits happens to flip, one million data bits stored on the chip...
