If you want to stop DOS interfering with non-DOS partitions, then label them with a non-DOS ID Number - old Minix uses 0x80, and Minix 1.5.10 uses 0x81. (The 'old' Minix had a problem with partitions with an odd number of cylinders (?sectors)). If you want Minix to leave a disk partition alone, then either don't mount it, or make root the owner of the device and give it no permissions. Then you have to make a real effort to foul things up. There's no reason that I can think of to use /dev/hd0 (as soon as I sign off, one will come to me...). On a 40Mb drive I use a 20Mb hd1 for DOS, a 1Mb hd2 for /tmp, a 1Mb hd3 for the root filesystem boot image, (waste of space, this will change), and an 18Mb hd4 for /usr. I keep the root filesystem in RAM with the smallest practical ramdisk (150K total), in the hope of putting on an EMS card in due course. DOS sees only one partition, the first, which was made with DOS fdisk. The other partitions were added with the Minix fdisk, or by patching with dd.
