Based on my experience, the problem with the AED-512 as an alpha terminal is not so much it's lack of spiffy alpha-terminal features (smart cursor manipulation, etc) as the absolutely intolerable brain-damaged keyboard that is guaranteed to drive any programmer/typist insane in less than 60 seconds. Masochists love it, everyone else reaches for their Sledge-O-Matic. Couple that with the abnormally short line (around 60 characters) and you get an arrangement that ranks right up with video tapes of Howard Cosell as all-time great torture devices. David Bryant cbosg!djb ps: As a graphics terminal, it's somewhat better, but it still has more than it's share of flakes. Flickers like a banshee, has the best glare-screen in the business (GLARES like you wouldn't believe), and much more. But that's a separate story.
