[comp.os.minix] Collected net software available on disk

ghelmer@dsuvax.uucp (Guy Helmer) (09/08/90)

A few weeks ago, I posted a proposal to comp.os.minix to offer
the MINIX-related software that I have collected to the MINIX
user community on floppy disk. The response to that proposal was
good, and no one has yet sent me a negative reply. So, I have decided
to go ahead with my idea of supplying software for MINIX on floppy disks.

This is the list of MINIX files that I have collected and put together
in some sort of order, with file sizes and comments. As I proposed
earlier this month, I offer these sources on 5.25" 360K IBM
floppy disks in either MINIX or DOS filesystems (you specify!).
Sources are currently compressed with 13 bits; packages of multiple
files are put together with tar before they are compressed.
jms@cs.vu.nl pointed out that I should use COMIC to compress the
sources, and I will make that option available soon.

I will pack the files you request onto the disks as well as I can,
but I will only use 'cp' (in MINIX) or 'copy' (in DOS) to put
the files on the disks, so there will be some wasted space on each
disk. I charge four dollars per disk, which will buy the disk,
the info on it, and the shipping for it (in the United States;
this price does not cover orders to be delivered outside of the
United States).

To order files from the library, please send me an email message
listing the files you wish and a snail-mail address to send the
package to. I will make your disks, reply to your email message
with the number of disks that the files actually took and the
fee that I expect, wait for your check/money order to appear in
my physical mailbox, and then drop your disks into the snail-mail.
If you need a written invoice or wish to use a purchase order, let
me know and I'll work it out.

To authors: If you see a program of yours listed that you don't want
distributed by me, please let me know and I will remove it from the archive.
Conversely, if you want a program distributed and it's not on the list,
mail me and I'll try to add it.

Please let anyone who doesn't have USENET access but needs software
for MINIX see this (either by hardcopy, or posting to relevant BBS's).
I don't know how to reach these people otherwise.

Although I list complete files in the 'commands' and 'commands/ibm'
directories, I will not be able to supply complete files unless
the original source is not included in the real MINIX distribution.
I will supply context diffs for those files as necessary.

If no one objects, I will make this a monthly posting (like Connor's
monthly posting selling the USENET manual set). I will continue to
collect the source that goes by on comp.os.minix, as well as search
the archive servers via ftp for more good stuff to add to this list.

Enjoy!

Guy Helmer
