[comp.os.minix] Questions about `the book' and recompiling

cmj851@csc.anu.oz (Richard Walker) (09/11/90)

In the announcement of Minix 1.5 ast mentions a paperback version of `the
book'. I saw such a book, and I am wondering if it is up-to-date. In the
section on booting up, it says that Minix boots up with the message `Minix 1.1'
(something like that). The edition is dated 1987, and the ISBN is
0-13-637331-3. Can someone tell me whether this is the book to get?

Secondly, if I want to fiddle with the code and recompile Minix, do I need
to buy an IBM C compiler (e.g. Turbo C)? If so, are there any recommendations
on which to buy?

Thanks in advance.

No need for a separate C compiler, as MINIx has it's own.
