[comp.os.minix] Porting Minix to `generic' 68020 machine.

alnitak@tardis.cs.ed.ac.uk (09/11/90)

I'd like to get in contact with people who are interested in porting Minix
to 68020 based machines (and also with those people who have already done it).

The Oxford University Microcomputer Society is about to start work designing
and building a 68020 based graphics computer (1/2 Megapixel, 24 bits per pixel),
and we are considering running Minix on it. Any help and advice would be
gratefully received.

Thanks,
Ray Bellis
(President, Oxford University Microcomputer Society).

A couple of us have ported the ATARI version to a Peripheral Technology
PT68K-2. Its a 68000 system running at 12.5 MHZ with PC expansion slot
accessibility. It will take off the self generic XT adaptor boards. The
only problem is that it can only address the memory and IO spaces on the
boards on the odd bytes. (68K has no A0 - only Low and High byte signal).
This means that you cannot replace the ROMS with 68K versions of the
drivers and expect them to execute. All drivers have to be in memory. We
have successfully gotten it to run with 2793 floppy controller, an XTGEN
hard disk controller, and a Hercules mono graphics card. We are also able
to use the parallel port on the Mono Card. I run a BBS in TEXAS at

and have the mods available for download. Check it out.
