[comp.os.minix] Steven W. Harrold

cgs@umd5.umd.edu (Chris G. Sylvain) (09/20/90)

You left no email address in your distribution of MIN2DOS. It almost works.
INT 25h apparently does not cross track boundaries the same way MINIX does,
so your programs never find the root directory correctly. I have modified
your 'absread' function so that it uses INT 13h -- INT 13h will read one
sector at a time, thus avoiding the boundary problem.

If you receive this, please respond. If you do not respond by Friday, October
5, 1990 I will assume you are not ever going to enforce the copyright in your
source files. The copyright gives no conditions, and I will assume there are
none. When I have completed fixing the files, I will post the collection sans
copyright (if you do not respond). I will properly attribute the basis of the
collection to you, but nothing more.

I consider this posting to be a valid Public Notice since the collection of
files were sent using electronic means world-wide, and I am using the same
means to contact Steven W. Harrold.

Re: The MIN2DOS package and fix

Yes, indeed, I am alive and well, and reading this news group.

I'd like to thank Chris for his efforts in tracking down this nagging bug.
I have sent him c369

I'm conducting a poll (yes, I realize it isn't terribly scientific) of
some of you USENET readers to see what you think about Shareware software.
Please take a few moments to fill in these questions and mail it back it
to me. I will keep all responses completely confidential. I will also
summarize to the net in a couple weeks.

For those who don't know, the Shareware concept allows a user to try out
a piece of software before he buys it. If the user likes the software, he
can send a registration fee to the author of the software.

You may answer "yes" or "no" to the questions, but a detailed answer
will be most appreciated.

A special thanks to those who keep the net in working order.
.. and a thanks to the author for responding so promptly. His response affirms
the validity of the copyright for the MIN2DOS collection.

I've made this followup posting (with Steve's permission) to satisfy the
curious, and to forward Steve's email address to the net.

Steve and I will be working to get all 'the kinks' out from the collection.

Please keep your eyes on the cyber-channel for an updated posting of MIN2DOS
from the author.
