[comp.os.minix] 1.5.10, estdio, virtual consoles, and 386

Hello all!
There was a recent question about using all of the above Minix bits
and pieces together - The answer is ``Yes!''. I recently upgraded from
1.2 (Yes - I do mean that!) to 1.5.10, and then installed estdio, the
386 patches, and virtual consoles (estdio and 386 were done together,
and I added virtual consoles later) I have been running this for
several weeks now, and (this is tempting fate! :-) have not yet had
a crash! I would like to thank everyone involved for a really good
piece of work!

As an aside, under 386 Minix, the standard unix distribution of compress
compiles and works just fine! Hacked versions are no-longer needed!

The only real problem I can remember is that estdio appears to break
kermit. The later seems to expect it's output to be flushed more often
than it is, with the result that prompts don't appear! The judicious
insertion of some ``flush(stdout)''s fixed it, although looking back
I should have tried setbuf first!

Now, if only there was some support for floating point under the
386 Minix, the last problem when porting Unix stuff to Minix would
disappear! (If I had fp I could compile gcc.... which would give
me fp! Fp constants are seen as illegal *structure* references by
Bruce's - otherwise excellent! - 386 C compiler!!!!!)
