Now that MINIX has been released for the Macintosh (it has, hasn't it?) I'm considering picking it up to do a few of the C programming and text-processing tasks I usually have to take to the UNIX machine at work. I have a few questions: 1. Is there a version of "awk" for MINIX? This is my most useful text-processing tool. (I think there is a GNU awk. How difficult is it to port GNU source?) 2. How much disk space does MINIX take up? Do you have to repartition your hard disk? 3. How easy is it to transfer text files from MINIX to MacOS? 4. If I just want to use the tools, and not hack the OS, is it a mistake to get MINIX? That is, does MINIX work "right out of the box", or is it like an Erector (Meccano) set: you have to build it before you can use it? Thanks, - David D. I've noticed that there are a LOT of Europeans on this newsgroup, so I hope nobody minds this little plug: I'm an American technical communicator looking for a job in Europe. (I also speak German and French and a little Nederlands.) If your company needs an English-speaking technical author, editor, trainer, or support person with UNIX and/or Macintosh experience, please see my posting in misc.jobs.resumes.
