[comp.os.minix] Trouble with Amiga Minix root file system

rom@mvsun.ericsson.se (Robert Malmgren TK/DG) (10/22/90)

When I finaly made all the necesary arrangement (copied minix.img.bu etc) to
get Amiga Minix to boot it failes to read the root file system, with the
message:

"Unrecoverable disk error on device 2/8, block 1
 winchester_task received 3 from 1
Unrecoverable disk error on device 3/3, block 1
File system panic: Invalid root file system

 MINIX halted

 Please reset your Amiga"

I started with a writeable copy of the root disk, and thought that I've just
made a bad copy, so I tested to do a new copy and use it, but no, no, I still
got this terror message in my face. Finaly I tried to boot on the original
root-filesystem disk (write protected of course), but still got this annoying
message. Is the original disk erroneous, or might it be an ordinary RTFM error?
I haven't seen any postings on the subject that other disks than the boot
disk was corrupted, so maybe my copy was mangled by the mail-man?

My system is an A500 with 1Meg memory and only internal disk drive.

This is the same problem I had with my 2.5Meg A1000. Unfortunately
the dos format program didn't work so I couldn't make any backups and
trashed my good disk right at the start. sigh.

Somebody mentioned that the minix.img.bu was different from minix.img. Does
anyone know if this is true? Was the minix.img.bu bogus?
