[comp.os.minix] gcc and g++

wolfskeh@acf9.nyu.edu (Mark Wolfskehl) (10/24/90)

Does gcc and g++ work with Minix, or is there a special Minix version?
Also, is there a 386 version of Minix available for purchase? How useful is
Minix as far as getting familiar with UNIX (compatibility, etc.)?

Thanks

I know that there is a GCC out there for Minix and I've been trying to get
hold of a copy for ages. If you have any more luck than me, perhaps you
could help me out?

Cheers, Andrew

Hello everybody!

Since there are many people asking about GnuC, especially asking
how to get it, here is a hint:

The "original" Gnu-Sources can be obtained via anon ftp from the site
"prep.ai.mit.edu" in the directory "/pub/gnu". There is also an
Document telling, how to get Gnu Software in other ways (Think of
the full Source code of GnuC being a 2.7MegByte compressed tar-File!!).
There must be a mail-server too, but I don't know exactly (but I think
it is mentioned on the Info_Sheet...).
A GnuC-binary for Minix-ST (and ATARI-ST) can be found on the site
"atari.archive.umich.edu" in the directory "/atari/gnustuff /minix or /tos".
I don't know of any archive for the PC-binaries. If someone knows this,
please let me (and the people who asked me) know!
Ciao,
     Michael.

It's the PC version that I'm after. If anyone out there can help me to
obtain a copy, I'd be eternally grateful.

Cheers, Andrew
