[comp.os.minix] How are crc's computed?

greg@mobius.Viewlogic.COM (Gregory Larkin) (10/29/90)

Hi all,

I was unpacking my 1.3->1.5.10 upgrade kit the other day and noticed
that there are files with .crc and .crcdif extensions in each one.

How are the values of each number calculated (i.e. with what program).
It doesn't seem to be the sum(1) program (at least not the one I have).
Is there a "crc" program that I can get from an FTP site to check these
numbers?

Thanks,

There is a crc program in the MINIX distribution.

The programs you are looking for are:
crc	- list crc's of files, left out of 1.3 by mestake :-(
or much better:
	ccrc, check_crc, duck...
		- Wim's crc's sucessor able to quickly list & check crc's
They are on the same ftp site as the patches.
