Date: 10 Sep 1982 12:11:39-EDT While the ECU's are far better than nothing, they are not perfect. For one thing, if you add ECU's then the line to the IMP becomes your responsibility and not NOC's. We at Rochester have a VDH and have had a lot of problems with the line to our IMP. Currently, if we suspect the line is bad, we just call up NOC (@BBN) and put our modem in loop-back and they diagnose it and then argue with the phone company until its done. With ECU's, the burden of proof falls on the host site. As a nit, you also have to ask the ECU to start polling when you boot the system. A small change that must be made to each release of the software. To be fair, the people at Rutgers and other places seem to be satisfied with their ECUs although I am not sure what speed they run at. I know Rutgers runs at 9.6k
