I'm posting this for someone else. I will forward replies sent to me. Thanks. Paul DuBois dubois@primate.wisc.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I recently installed Minix 1.5 on the hard disk of my Compaq Deskpro 386/16 (1 - 5.25" floppy drive). One partition of my hard disk is devoted to MSDOS, the remaining 3 partitions are for Minix. I am using the AT-Boot Disk. Everything works fine except for the following: When I use 'mkfs' to try to create a file system on my floppy, e.g.: mkfs /dev/fd0 360 I get the following error messages: "Unrecoverable write error on device 2/0, block 359" "Unrecoverable disk error on device 2/0, block 359" "Error: File system is too big for minor device" "Line 1 being processed when error detected" If I change the mkfs command to e.g.: mkfs /dev/fd0 200 I get a device error on block 199. I have tried substituting the device, /dev/at0, but the problem remains. I have also tried creating a proto file using 'mkproto'. Again, this has no effect. Any suggestions about how to rectify this problem would be appreciated, since I need to backup my system and also make copies of my Boot disk. -- Paul DuBois dubois@primate.wisc.edu "Was all of this because I wore a big man's hat?"
