I have been sifting through the subject headings in this newsgroup for the past month or so with sufficient confusion about the success of Macminix. It looks as though there are some real problems with the software. One wonders, as a consequence, whether the $169 P-H pricetag is all that worth it, especially if large scale hacking is required to get the thing going. So, I am hereby asking someone who has gotten MacMinix to run smoothly to explain whether they think that the price is worth it. I, for one, would love to have a unix-like environment on my mac+ (though I do wonder about its ability to handle the load), but I worry about whether I'd be able to manipulate mac-generated (msword, macwrite, etc) text files, print on an imagewriter, communicate through my serial port via modem to other machines, etc. It sounds almost ideal (except for the fact that it won't replace the mac os).
