Greetings, I have an IBM PS/2 Model 70 (as you might guess) on which I am trying to get Minix 1.5.10 working. I have a working version on a PC/AT clone. Using that, I created a Shoelace boot disk on a 3-1/2 1.44MB floppy, using the floppy disk parameters for that disk type, and using the BIOS hard disk device driver. The PS/2 booting under Shoelace runs fine, loading all the programs properly. The Minix memory usage is displayed, followed by the "Executing in real mode" message, as it should. The floppy disk drive grinds for a couple of seconds, stops, and nothing further happens. The keyboard and terminal still respond, in fact, pressing <F1> gives the full process list, which looks fine to me. It indicates that the process with the name and id of 3 is looping infinitely. Playing with the AT version, process 3 runs /bin/sh (for the rc script?). On the PS/2 nothing is listed as the command in the process list. Does anyone know what it is trying to do? Can anyone give me any pointers to getting Minix over this last :-) hurdle? More generally, is anyone running Minix on an IBM PS/2 Model 70? The compatibility list doesn't mention it, but does mention that Minix runs on a the very similar Model 80 with patches. What are those patches? Must some value(s) be defined when creating the system executeables for a 386 (or PS/2) machine running in real mode that aren't used for the straight PC/AT Minix? As you can see, I've run out of ideas and answers. Any light shone on the problem, even the slightest glimmer, will be tremendously welcomed. If you need any further information, feel free to ask. Of course, if I do succeed, I'll be happy to help anyone else wanting Minix on their PS/2 Model 70. Doug Burks _O_ dbx@olympic.atmos.colostate.edu |<
