I ftp'd over the gnu emacs binary from plains. It seems to work fine on my console port, but I have problems using it on the terminal on my serial port. I have a VT-100 clone running on my second serial port (/dev/tty65), my system is a 386xs with 2 Meg of memory. I'm running the 386 kernel with the virtual console patches. The problem is when I start up emacs like this: $ emacs I get what looks like the termcap escape sequences without the escape character. Now, if I type $ emacs > afile exit emacs, then type $ cat afile I see the emacs screen displayed in all its glory. I do not have this problem with elvis, less, or any other termcap-oriented program, they talk to my terminal perfectly. I've played with different termcap entries on both my console and the terminal (for example, the "ansi terminal with pessimistic assumptions" termcap that is available on various machines). Emacs still works fine on the console, it still generates garbage on the terminal. I've played around with the terminal configuration, still no luck. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
