Just thought I'd give credit where credit is due. I looked up the name of the guy who ported MINIX to the PT68K. It's Gary Mills of Manitoba His address on usenet is: mills@ccu.umanitoba.ca

Hi people, Has anyone done a Minix port to the PT-68K? (a 68000 kit computer) If yes, could someone point me towards the diffs. If no, what version of the source should I start with to do my own port? ( Mac, ST, Amiga ) Does it matter for a generic 68000 port what version? Are binaries portable between 68000 based hardware platforms? Thanks, Brian

Yes - A port was done to the PT68K about a year ago. It was based on the ATARI ST 1.1 (same as IBM 1.3). We called it 1.4b. The original port was done by a guy in Canada named Gary Mills. He submitted the diff files to Mico68 Journal, who never really got around to making them available to the world. Luckily Sidney Thompson got a hold of them and sent me a copy. The port Gary Mills port did not handlethe hard disk or the printer. I added Hard disk and printer support. Sidney cleaned up a lot of what I did, and we now have a very stable version of the original ATARI ST release running on the PT68K. All of the file that you need including directions are available on my BBS in the minix file area. I had posted it to the net a while back, but it didn't stay around long - I guess there just wasn't enough interest. My BBS number is 817-488-8398. 2400 8N1 with no time limit and immediate full access. No registeration required and no donations accepted. To do the port of the original diskettes, you will have to have an operational PT68K running SK*DOS or an AT running MSDOS. All programs necessary to transfer files from the PC to the PT68K minix are on the BBS, as well as programs to format the minix diskettes under SK*DOS and write the minix disk images to the minix diskettes under SK*DOS. If you decide to call my BBS and download the files, get the file MINIX.BUM first - read it - and see if you really want to do this. Another approach is to send me you original minix (ATARI) diskettes, and I will send the PT68K version back to you on these diskettes. No qaurantees, but I've done this for others with no problems. Contact me either here on the net or CIS or my BBS. My CIS ID is 76107,106. Name is Michael Evenson. Mike

I remember reading an article about how someone ported Minix ST in to the PT68K in the April or May 1990 issue. -- Alex Valdez
