I brought Minix 1.5.0 (P-H distribution) up on a Compaq LTE/286 last weekend and everything tests ok. I had access to a 5.25" drive and loaded the system from the P-H disks. I was able to make backups of some of the disks using another machine with MKS toolkit on it (a great product by the way!) I used the following sequence: 1) dd if=a: of=<disk n> 2) dd if=<disk n> of=a: I was not able to do all the disks like this but that was because the a: drive was a 1.2MB unit and began refusing to format the floppies. I did successfully copy the root file system this way, and if memory serves me, the boot floppy also. NB: Minix from P-H will NOT boot from a 1.44 MB floppy. The problem is in /usr/src/tools/bootblok.s which will not handle 1.44MB disks. I covered the sense hole on a 1.44 disk and formatted to 720KB and then built a new boot floppy with the makefile in /usr/src/tools. If any one has a patch for bootblok.s and /or information on booting from the hard disk please post it, send it to me e-mail , or tell me where I can pick it up via anonymous ftp.
