All right, fess up!!! I know that there are those of you who are running news on MINIX, so come up with the goods (please???)! I heard some time ago that someone (can't remember who) was working on it, and then I hear of people actually running it. I am talking about the small model PC version of course (with all of the versions running around however, I may be mistaken about this). If it is still in development, a status report would be appreciated. If it is finished and out, a note telling me where I can get it (via mail server) would also be even more appreciated. Thanks and happy hollidays! Brian Bainter kd4nc!vdbsan!brian

The news package you're probably talking about seems to be FvK's WNEWS, still unposted (unfinished?). I remember seeing a post of a news package December 89 (that far. Times goes fast). As for myself, I got my hand on news v2.11 and tried to make it work on Minix. All compiled correctly (with some editing), but I couldn't make inews work - the code is awful, relies heavily on the "right" behaviour and even uses bugs or simulate them on versions were they were corrected - at all. Since inews is the heart of the whole system, well, it means that news don't work (yet) on my Minix. > If it is still in development, a status report would be appreciated. Yes, I would like one too... I'm rewriting a news package from "near scratch" (keeping all the stuff that works from v2.11), but would appreciate if all my efforts were not wasted/duplicate of others. Fred, some comments? Maybe a (small) progress report on your network/usenet packages. Wmail is up and running, but umail/uucp are old versions and wnews is still in limbo.
