I would like to know how to add a password to the passwd file on the /usr diskette (same goes for the rc file). If the passwd file is modified in /dev/ram, how can I modify the /usr diskette so that the new password will be there the next time I boot up? For the rc file, I want to add some commands to prompt the user to insert the /us(e)r diskette then mount it and exit to the login prompt so that the user can get to his account. Do I have to make a totally new file system and add what's in RAM (the newly modified passwd and rc files) to this new file system? What's more, how does one create file systems for the root and /usr if both are contained in the RAM. Thank you, Eliot Kaagan P.S. I'm borrowing this account, so please e-mail all responses with my initials in the Subject line. Thanx.

I'm a student in ETSI Telecomunicacion in Madrid and I'm very interested in MINIX, so when i decided to get minix from News i lost the first 11 files of version 1.5.0 that were deleted by system ( 8-( ). I have all the patches of the last versions (1.5.3 & 1.5.5) but i need the 1.5.0 to mount it all. The files i need are: 1 doc_00 2 doc_01 3 doc_02 4 doc_03 5 include_00 6 man_00 7 man_01 8 man_02 9 man_03 10 sys_00 11 head.s If some one could be so kind to send me by E-mail those files he'll be rewarded with zillions of thanks.( ;-) ) My direction is jtojo@dit.upm.es or jtojo@goya.uucp thanks for all.

Has anyone faced the problem which I have: 1. Boot diskette #1 works fine and produces a prompt. 2. On the introduction of diskette #4 and pressing = the expected divison of memory etc is obtained. The system then says remove root diskette. 3. Following instructions, the diskette #5 is introduced and a carriage return is typed. There is no response from the system for a long time (approx 2 min) The diskette light too does not come on. 4. Finally in desperation DEL is pressed and this produces the following response: init: couldn't exec login Is this a problem with the hardware (which of course I have been asssured is 100% hardware compatible with IBM :-|(=)--or some problem with the distribution diskettes that I got? Thanks in advance. Kapil Paranjape.
