[comp.os.minix] 386 boot problem on 386

sid.boyce@amail.amdahl.COM (12/28/90)

Following upgrade from 286 to 386 using Micronics 386/33 Motherboard,
32k Cache, 4Meg...all other bits the original...WD1006-SR2 with 30MB+
65MB RLL hard drives, A(1.2MB), B(1.44MB) and using the 1.5.10 boot
floppy, "Booting Minix 1.5.10" comes up then "read error, Automatic
Reboot".
1. used setup to disable hard drives and 1.5.10 boots ok.
2. With hard disks enabled and 1.3 boot floppy, boots up ok, ramdisk
is loaded ok from hd3 and hd2 is mounted as /usr, most things seem
   fine, except for "mkdir".
3. Used micronics "setsys" and "flpboot" utilities to reduce speed
to 8 MHz, disable cache and boot from floppy, still getting read
errors. This floppy worked fine on my 286, Zenith 286 desktop and
   Compaq 386/33.
I did see a couple of problems reported article 5569 and in the 386
Tutor.
Would welcome suggestions on any way around this.
The 1.5.10 boot floppy was supplied built from The Minix Centre.
I will try building a floppy when I get a makefile for the 1.5.10
kernel. I see in article 5569 that the shoelace stuff works, but I
am still trying to get "make" to work with sheolace.
