here is where i am: i know nothing. absolutely, positively nothing.... well, ok, that might be a slight exageration... :) anyway, i'm very interested in minix, as a way to learn os systems and as a working environment. from what i've read of tanenbaum's book i'm guessing that msdos programs are not supported, is this true? is there a way to convert exe files to minix format? also, i'm not an expert with c yet and i'm definitely not an expert with assembly for the 80186 (in fact, i'm not even sure if that's the chip this pc has!). also, is emacs supported- are there any emacs or emacs-like ports to minix? i don't expect full compatibility but... something more than vi (p-p-p-p-please eddie!) ok, nuff questions. if you've got a really in depth discussion on minix, please e-mail it (there seem to be 2000+ unread articles here... sheesh you guys talk alot!). thanks... kevin internet: lyda@acsu.buffalo.edu bitnet: lyda@sunybcs
