[comp.os.minix] Two questions, Minix ST

laverman@cs.rug.nl (Bert Laverman) (01/04/91)

Hi there,

1) Did anybody experiment with the RTS line in 1.5.10[.3]?
We're trying here to get two ST's up through UUCP (It works, in the
archives soon...), but are hampered by some oddity in the Gandalf
Thingamajigs. Model 125 needs to be hand-switched for switching on
and off, but Model 120 allows the computer to do this through RTS. The
problem is that Minix ST 1.5.10 doesn't touch those signals, and the
port-selector soon decides to ignore RTS since nothing happens.
What we need is some way to drop RTS while the line is not needed.
This could be done by selecting B0 for speed (I'm told PC-Minix does
this re. DTR), but... stty(1) rejects it, ioctl(2) ignores it, and
do_ioctl (in the kernel) circumvenes it. Sounds like somebody didn't
   like B0 :-)

2) I'm about to commit myself into buying a Megafile 60 HardDisk. I seem
to remember somebody complaining that it wouldn't work (quite some
time ago, I agree, but still). Also all this talk about partition
sizes.. Is that going to bite me? Megafile users please respond.

Hello Bert!

I use a MEGAFILE 30 with a 65 MB Seagate ST277R Drive (I think this is the
drive in the MEGAFILE 60) instead off the originale 32 MB ST238R. It works
fine under TOS and MINIX 1.5.10. I use version 3.01 of the Atari harddisk-
software (AHDI and HDX). There are no problems in partitioning the drive.
Only if you want another partition-id for your MINIX-Partitions in the
superblock of the drive, you must change a configuration-file or you must
use a diskeditor.

Greetings, Olaf
