Hello world!
A few weeks ago, I announced a textformatter named MROFF, which is
capable to produce nice output on epson compatible printers and on
Hercules Graphics Cards. This formatter is not full troff, but very
macro compatible. There are -ms and -man like macro packages. All
fonts are included. These fonts are edited versions of the Hershey
fonts, so all sizes from 8 to 90 points are available. You will need a
winchester drive to use MROFF, because of large temporary files needed
by the printer drivers. The current version is for PC MINIX 1.5.10, but
the code also compiles and runs on SUN workstations, so I think that it
is portable.
There is support for writing in Hindi, one of the many Indian languages.
This is the result from the "Hindi project", well known by some people
reading the newsgroup soc.sulture.indian. A MROFF preprocessor and a
font is included in the following parts.
There is also a preprocessor, which allows to do spell checking using
the MINIX dictionaries.
Full documentation about MROFF, the Hindi project and a -ms macro
tutorial are included.
The sources are uuencoded 13-bit compressed shell archives. After
removing headers, you should get the following files:
CRC LEN NAME CONTENTS COPY TO DIRECTORY
18222 31196 doc_sh.uue documentation mroff/doc
04133 28191 driver_sh.uue device drivers mroff/driver
39830 37641 hfont_sh_uue.1 fonts, part 1 /usr/lib/hfont
33693 32656 hfont_sh_uue.2 fonts, part 2 /usr/lib/hfont
47399 2094 include_sh.uue header files /usr/include/local
61352 10293 misc_sh.uue preprocessors mroff/misc
04227 6135 mmac_sh.uue macros /usr/lib/mmac
25379 36541 mroff_sh.uue mroff sources mroff/mroff
The fonts are a splitted uuencoded 13-bit compressed shell archive.
After copying each part to its suggested directory and concatenating the
two font files, uudecode and uncompress. Then use sh to unpack the
shell archives. If a sysadmin of one of the big ftp sites archives this
program, please send me email. I am looking for a place, where I can
archive my own sources and make them world-accessible. It would be
nice, to get my own path on some of these big ftp sites. Unfortunately,
there are problems to open my own archive on our local university ftp
server. (No technical problems, you understand? :-( )
I hope that everything works ok until now, because I really hate
postings with damaged or missing files; but you know Murphy's law.
If there are any questions, bug reports (with fixes :-) ), or anything
else you can send me email to:

DO NOT USE THE ADRESS IN THE HEADER, PLEASE!!!
Another way is snail mail:

Ok, that's it. We are interested, what you think about MROFF, our
favourite textprocessor on MINIX. Have fun!
