[comp.os.minix] Limits on Minix

grendel@sumax.seattleu.edu (Grendel) (01/04/91)

Once again I ask if Minix has a 64k or 128k limit on executables or what.
This has been told to me quite a few times and I want to know if it is
hersey or not. The 64k limit is one of the (many) reasons I don't really
want Coherent. Does Minix have the same limits??

On a PC the limit is 64K, unless you use the -i option for separate I&D
spaces in which case you get a total of 128K. If you have a 386 or higher
you can get Bruce Evans' excellent 32-bit upgrade which will let you use all
the RAM that you have. The 64K limit does not exist on 68K based Minix
(Atari ST, Mac and Amiga).

For the PC/AT, MINIX has a process limit of 64k code and 64k data.
This is not true for 'real' processors like 386, 486, 680x0
