[comp.os.minix] LARGE cache under 386 Minix

agm@stl.stc.co.uk (Andrew G. Minter) (01/21/91)

I'm running Bruce Evan's 386 Minix on a machine with plenty of RAM and I'd
like to allocate rather more than the standard 380K or so for disk buffers.
The problem is that the whole OS (including data) has to fit in the first
640K of RAM. I know what this problem has been discussed before, but does
anyone actually have an effective solution?

The reason I'm concerned about this is that I'm running GNU C and I'm sure
this will run a *lot* better with a large cache.

Thanks in advance, Andrew

P.S. Anyone running Minix with GNU tools on a 386/33 system? I'm thinking of
     getting one.
