For anyone who was wondering whether or not to get Amiga Minix because they weren't sure if it worked on a 1000: It works. I have had very few problems with running it on my 1000, but admittedly, I have not tried too much yet. I have only 1 floppy, which makes life rather slow when doing anything like compiling, so I am really waiting for someone to put some work into hard-drive drivers. Does anyone know if a SCSI driver will work for all SCSI interfaces (or will they be different for every one)? As far as I can tell, they should be the same, except the memory mapped registers may be in different places. What I guess I am getting at is: will there be a zillion different drivers for hard-drives/interface combinations, or will there be a fairly generic base that can be customised. If I learn anything significant about drivers (ie if I have time to disassemble the AmigaDOS drivers) I will let people know. Oh, and Atari ST Minix binaries definitely do work fine on the Amiga. I tried a new version of elvis that was compiled on my friend's ST, and it worked perfectly. So, start scouring those atari minix archives... I think that's good news? I received Minix for my 1000 last month and after getting it to boot using the minix.img.bu - it promptly wrote yuckos on the system disk. Are you using a standard book disk? Did you have to recreate it with the minix.img.bu? Are you using the patched boot file that was posted here a couple weeks ago? Can you format the PC style floppies with the supplied utility for making backups of the Minix disks? Is it necessary to turn off the FAST ram? > > I have only 1 floppy, which makes life rather slow when doing anything > like compiling, so I am really waiting for someone to put some work > into hard-drive drivers. I almost hope that drivers aren't made available. It's going to cost bucks for a new disk when they are. :-) > > > Oh, and Atari ST Minix binaries definitely do work fine on the Amiga. > I tried a new version of elvis that was compiled on my friend's ST, > and it worked perfectly. I know this question has probably been asked a 100 times but I just got involved with minix and I have some questions. Will Minix run on an A1000? All the adds I saw for it don't include the 1000. If it can't run, why not? Also has support for Amiga Harddrives been added? I have and Alf 2 controller. Is it supported. Thank you. Dana S. Kaufman kaufmads@clutx.clarkson.edu
