[net.unix-wizards] binary UNIX licenses

george (09/04/82)

I am interested in information on a UNIX binary license
for a pdp-11 (lsi-11) without separate I&D.
UNIX should be the real thing, not a facsimile.
It should be already available.

I will mail out copies or post a summary as seems
appropriate based on requests.

	Thank You,

1.	your name
	phone/address/net address

2.	name of company
	phone/address/net address

3.	Are you a representative of the company?
4.	Are you a customer of the company?

5.	What is the price for the license and distribution
based on single quantity, 2-16 ports, and disk controllers
	emulating DEC disks?
The price should cover the kernel and all[see below]
	UNIX utilities (i.e. commands).

6.	What system calls were eliminated?
7.	What utilities are unavailable?
(Recall that this is without separate I&D.)

8.	Are overlays supported?

9.	Can the customers reconfigure their systems?
(i.e. add drivers and change parameters)

10.	From which UNIX systems is the kernel derived?
	(these are not mutually exclusive)

	A.	version 6
	B.	version 7
	C.	system III
	D.	2.* BSD
	E.	Microsoft (XENIX)
	F.	Unisoft
	G.	other (please specify)

11.	Which UNIX systems do the commands come from?
	(these are not mutually exclusive)

	A.	version 6
	B.	version 7
	C.	system III
	D.	2.* BSD
	E.	Microsoft (XENIX)
	F.	Unisoft
	G.	other (please specify)

12.	Is the ex/vi editor included?

13.	Other comments are welcome.

---------
Some companies seem to sell some utilities (e.g. uucp, yacc)
as separate products. Such cost should be added into
the price in the answer to question 5.
Some companies do not have all utilities working (e.g. awk, pcc).
These should be noted in the answer to question 7.
The term "all" in question 5 can be interpreted
as referring to either "all utilities from Bell version 7"
or "all utilities from Bell system III".

A few weeks ago (Sep. 4) I posted (idis.136) on net.unix-wizards a request
for information concerning binary UNIX licenses available for pdp-11.
I received several replies, all requests for what I find out.
I am posting this to both net.general and net.unix-wizards
in hopes of a greater readership.

It seems to me that I have seen articles on the net posted from
microsof and hcr. I imagine other distributors and OEMs are also
on the net. I assume that it is to their advantage to reply to me.
