Hi all, I have *finally* made some significant progress towards upgrading to 1.5.10... I built kernel, mm, and fs sucessfully. I then went to /usr/src/tools and built bootblok, build, init, and menu. I ran build(8) to create a boot diskette on /dev/at0. It printed out info as it wrote each part to the disk. Seemed fine 'til here. The last message it printed out was "build: mm click_shift does not match kernel's." What is this error indicative of? I tried out the boot diskette and it starts Minix fine, although I can't get past the menu without an MM panic. If I fix the build problem, should this fix the MM panic? I tried selecting a RAM disk size that was the same as I used in V1.3. (117K). Any pointers on how to set things up from here (where to put root FS, etc.) would be helpful. I want to free up as much lo memory as possible, so I can compile the big commands easily. Eventually, I will install shoelace, too. Hi all, Well, I'm finally getting my V1.5 system up and running. I just compiled fs, mm, kernel, init, menu, and bootblok. I used build to make a boot diskette on /dev/at0. Build cranked away and then printed a message at the end: "build: mm click_shift does not match kernel's" What does this error mean? The boot diskette allows me to start 1.5, but I cannot get past the menu. As soon as I try, MM panics. Is the build error related to this? I would also appreciate pointers to ways of setting up my hard disk for using 1.5. i.e. where the root FS goes, how shoelace is used, etc. Thanks, -- Greg Larkin (ASIC Engineer) Viewlogic Systems, Inc. Hi all, Well, I'm finally getting somewhere in my quest to upgrade to V1.5.10! I've got libc.a, mm, fs, init, menu, bootblok, kernel, and build built on my AT. I want to create a 1.5 boot diskette, so I used build to do it. Build clunked away and then printed: "build: mm click_shift does not match kernel's" What does this error mean? Will it break my boot diskette? My boot diskette boots up 1.5, but then dies with a MM panic after the menu. Is this caused by the problem during the build? How do I fix this? Also, i would appreciate any pointers on setting up the hard disk for 1.5. i.e. what partitions, how many, what size, where are things located, etc. I am also interested in this for 386-Minix, as I will do that upgrade after I get this one working!! In the past when this error message occured, it was because version 1.3 of head was used instead of the new 1.5 version UUCP: {hplabs!hp-sdd ucsd nosc}!crash!pnet01!hall ARPA: crash!pnet01!hall@nosc.mil INET: hall@pnet01.cts.com
