Can anyone tell me what is going wrong with my boot procedure? Is it a corrupt Root File System disk? or my system? Following the instructions in the manual that came with Minix 1.5 (on 12 3.5" 720k disks) I get identical results booting with Disk #3 Universal Boot Disk, and with Disk #12 Boot Disk with ST-506 Hard Disk. The Boot Disk seems to load OK. I get the prompt to remove it and type '=' when the Root Disk is in place. The Root Disk reading gives error messages of the form: xK Unrecoverable disk error on device 2/0, block n where 'x' is a number from 5 to 125, in increments of 5. There is one message of this form for each of the following values of 'n': 8 11 15 18 26 30 33 37 40 48 52 55 59 67 70 74 77 81 89 92 96 99 107 111 114 118 121 129 After getting all these error messages (more than a screenful) the system just hangs, nothing will do anything without a reboot. My system is a 8/16 Mhz 386sx, 1.44 Meg 3.5" drive A, 1.2 Meg 5.25" drive B, 40 Meg IDE HardDisk, 2 Meg Ram. I've tried this with the 3.5" drive A CMOS setup to both 1.44 Meg and 720 K settings, and with the Turbo set to both 16 MHz and 8 MHz, with the same results in all cases. Can anyone confirm/deny that this shows Disk #4 Root File System, to be corrupt? Or is my system somehow incompatible? This same Minix package was tried on another system without success, but I don't know what the exact symptoms were there. If indeed, the disk is corrupt, how/where do we go about getting a good copy? Any help will be greatly appreciated. --terry /* terry@braille.uwo.ca * Terry Cudney Amistosa MicroWare 9 Durham Street, LONDON, Ontario, N5Y 2H9IL */ -- --terry /* terry@braille.uwo.ca * Terry Cudney Amistosa MicroWare 9 Durham Street, LONDON, Ontario, N5Y 2H9IL */
