Dear People, Please find below the complete source package of the W-NEWS NEWS processing package for MINIX (and other small UNIX-like) systems. It is a fairly complete system, which has already proven its powers (and, we have to be honest here, bugs and shortcomings) because it is used by most (if not all) people on the European part of MUGNET. It currently runs on the following systems: - MINIX-PC (IBM PC/XT) 640Kb RAM Contact: Wim van Dorst, <baron@wiesje.hobby.nl> - MINIX-PC (IBM PC/AT) 1Mb RAM Contact: me - MINIX-PC (AT/386 (Bruce Evans' Kernel)) 4Mb RAM Contact: Paul Schneider <paul@demug.de.mugnet.org> - MINIX-ST (Atari 1040Stf version 1.5.10.3) 1Mb RAM Contact: Bert Laverman <bert@arrakis.nl.mugnet.org> - Advanced MINIX 1.5.10-PC (IBM PC/XT) 640Kb RAM Contact: me - Advanced MINIX 1.5.10-PC/286 (PC/AT) 1Mb RAM Contact: Peter de Vrijer <peter@pa3ebv.nl.mugnet.org> - Advanced MINIX 1.5.10-PC/286 (PC/AT) 4Mb RAM Contact: me - Advanced MINIX 1.5.10-PC/386 (AT/386) 4Mb RAM Contact: me So, no Mac's or Amiga's yet, and only one Atari. This should be the main target of testing.. This version of W-NEWS is actually a pre-release; it is not yet completely finished. However, I got _swamped_ with requests for it, so I just post it here. The alpha and beta test phases went fairly well, so I expect little problems. However: 1. Install the software and see if it runs. It probably will, but then again, I do not have a Mac, Atari or Amiga... 2. Try to isolate _bugs_ in the software as much as possible. I am not (yet) interested in features. This package has to be "OK" as soon as possible, since many people want it. We can always add features later :-) 3. Study the documentation carefully. I used the standard MINIX "nroff" to create all docs, and they look good here. I am not sure if what I did works on all systems... 4. In the final stage, let me know about "things yet to be done in the future". W-NEWS is already a fairly complete system, but it could use some improvements here and there... Anyway, happy hacking with this software. I enjoyed (yeah, really!) writing it, and I hope you all will enjoy debugging it :-) :-) The next four (4) postings will contain the four parts of the UUencoded, compressed shar archive (yes, I know. Wasting bandwidth and such, but this keeps the Bitnetters happy :-). The resulting SHAR file is about 235Kbyte ...
