Hello.. I'm having a little problem with kermit. It doesn't seem to want to work at >1200. When I run kermit, I set the line to /dev/tty64 and set the speed to 2400. When I send something to my modem, it remains at 1200. Being new to playing sys-admin, I tried changing the speed value in /etc/ttys from 'f' to '6' (I'm using the Nutshell _Managing uucp and Usenet_ for a reference), but that didn't seem to have any affect. What am I doing wrong? I've installed the virtual console package, but I think I was having the problems before that. Also.. Being new to setting up and taking down Unix(-like) systems, I've got a question about bring the system down (I got Minix 1.5.10 installed last night on my 386). From what I've read, before taking down the system you should do a couple of syncs, then unmount the file systems. Is it important to unmount them, or can I just reboot with them still mounted? I'm running the system with /usr on hd2, my RAM drive image on hd3, and the remainder of my disk in hd4 mounted on /user. Since the tables seem to be on the RAM drive, and they can't be unmounted anyways, it would seem I could reboot after I sync. Is this true? Thanks. ---- Brian Volkoff nextnet.ccs.csus.edu
