[comp.os.minix] Various 386 Minix questions.

khchiang@athena.mit.edu (12/22/90)

greetings. i unpacked minix out of the box about two months ago, but didn't
really have enough to get it all installed until finals week was over. my
thanks to Bruce Evans, Gordon Irlam (sp?), and John Nall.

unfortunately, i've run into a couple of snags (1.5.10 with 386 patches and
virtual consoles, clone 386):

1) there doesn't seem to be source for cpp, which makes rebuilding the kernel
under 32 bit minix a little difficult to do. is there an archive where i can
get the source?

2) i don't seem to be able to create the psdatabase file. i checked the bcc
documentation, but failed in my attempts to get symbol table output for ast to
include in the executable. on the other hand, i think i'm missing something
pretty obvious. suggestions?

3) i've been unable to build elle at all. looking through all the man pages on
cc that i can find, i've been unable to identify the -u option on the final
linking of all the modules. the specific line i'm thinking of has the option
"-u _main". removing the option didn't help much either. i got the error
"undefined symbol: .0", and have not tried to do anything with it since. has
anyone else encountered this?

4) i'm having a bit of trouble with the dial package that comes with uucp.
where can i find a test program that exercises all the options in package?

thanks very much for any help in these problems...

Hello all,

I have a few questions about 386-Minix.

What do test8 and test9 test?

Test 8 fails with a kernel panic, and test 9 just fails with too many errors.
Have I made a mistake compiling the new kernel, or is
this inherent with 386 Minix?

Are there any other differences between Normal minix and 386 minix that I do
not know about?

Thanx all,

Bevan Anderson.
