I am new to this group and to minix, and have only a couple of weeks of net access left so can't wait for the info I need to appear, so.. (a) I guess Minix 386 doesn't have the 64k limits -- but if it does, could someone tell me please, as that is the main reason I want to avoid MSDOS. (NOT the only reason! ;-) (b) Can I expect it to run on a standard 386 clone without too much trouble? I'm presently considering an Amstrad PC 2386 (at half recommended retail price!). (c) I know the source goes with it (what does that remind me of?), but is it source only? If so, what kind of problems should I expect trying to compile it? (See (e)) (d) Would you consider that not having access to this group (maybe not even email for a few months) would seriously hinder application development under minix? (e) What is the easiest way to get hold of the latest version of minix 386 here in the UK, given that at this site we don't have ftp, and presently have mail problems which cause many archive mail servers to barf on our headers. I don't mind shelling out for the book, if the 386 version is available with it, but am not sure of title, publisher. ISBN would be great. I guess email would be best but it's your decision! ;-) Thanks.
