I just got a copy of the minix demo disk (from ftp.cs.vu.nl, CRC checked ok) and booted it on my IBM 286 AT clone and have run into some trouble. It boot okay; prompts for the keyboard type, date & time, then login. This is where the trouble begins. After keying in "root" it usally just sits there with no response, echoes characters but seems to ignore them. Hitting Ctl-D will cause it to prompt for password then complain about invalid login. After that, hitting enter will cause it to output an entire line of login: login: login: login: ... A couple of times (exactly twice, actually) it has apparently successfully logged me in, but then nothing works. The first time the command "ls -l" failed with complaints of it being too complex. The second time the command "ls -l /bin" locked the system up. Anybody have any ideas what could be wrong? Am I simply unfortunate enough to have an insufficiently compatible clone that will not work with minix? Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. P.S.: The system that I am trying to run this on is a 16mHz 286 with 2mb of memory and AMI BIOS. The motherboard is of Tiawan manufacture. Runs MSDOS fine (of course).
