[comp.os.minix] Trying to get GNU RCS 5.5 to compile

bob@miranda.inmos.co.uk (Bob Green) (05/07/91)

Over the past few months, I've heard people in this group mention that they
have a working RCS on their minix machines. Each time, I say to myself "Right,
it must be possible -- I'll have another go". Each time I get stuck in the same
place: getting the conf.sh file to run with the minix (ST 1.5.10.3) shell.
I get the message

'cc: not found

This has something to do (I think) with the line

: ${C='cc -O'}

I'm no shell guru, and I don't fancy crawling over 700 lines of shell script
by hand, especially when someone must have solved this problem before. So, does
anyone have any of the following that they'd be prepared to send me:

   1. A version of conf.sh that will work

   2. An alternative set of sources for RCS that I could use

   3. Binaries for the RCS tools that I could have

Thanks

-Bob

There are some succesfull attempts to compile RCS 5.5. I can speak only
about the atari ST attempts.

1) There has been posted a couple of cdiff's lately for RCS under minix.
   apply these!
2) If you are compiling under minix-st 1.5, get my diffs. Posted 8 april,
   Message ID <klamer.671114905@mi.eltn.utwente.nl>.
3) Get gdiff. This one is on plains, compiled with gcc. It is also compilable
by c68, 32 bits mode. In that case, get my diffs with regard to read/
write with 32 bits arguments. Otherwise you are limited to files
shorter than 32k... (Posted 8 april,
   MessageID. <klamer.671114249@mi.eltn.utwente.nl>).

When anyone wants the binaries, ask me. When it should be available for
ftp somewere, say me were to put it.
