[comp.os.minix] Help me FTP'ing from PLAINS

PAZZINI%BRUFSM@cunyvm.cuny.edu (Marcelo Pazzini) (05/17/91)

Dear all,
I was trying to FTP from plains but all I can get is the file /pub/Index!
Can anybody help me? My dialogue with BITFTP@PUCC was:

18:49:13 > FTP plains.nodak.edu
18:49:13 > USER anonymous
(*stuff*)
18:49:16 <<< 230 Guest login ok, access restrictions apply.
18:49:16 > CD /pub
18:49:16 >> CD /pub
18:49:20 >>> CWD /pub
18:49:20 <<< 250 CWD command successful.

18:49:21 > GET Index
18:49:21 >> GET Index PAZZINI.INDEX.D ( REPLACE
18:49:24 >>> PORT 128,112,129,99,152,68
18:49:24 <<< 200 PORT command successful.
18:49:24 >>> RETR Index
18:49:24 <<< 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for Index (1142 b
             ytes).
18:49:24 <<< 226 Transfer complete.
18:49:24 >>>> File "Index" sent to you as "PAZZINI INDEX".

18:49:24 > CD /pub/minix
18:49:24 >> CD /pub/minix
18:49:25 >>> CWD /pub/minix
18:49:25 <<< 550 /pub/minix: No such file or directory.

What means "no such file or dir"?? If I look inside the Index, there is
a dir named minix.
Trying again...

13:57:41 > FTP plains.nodak.edu
(* stuff *)
13:57:45 > CD pub
13:57:45 >> CD pub
13:57:45 >>> CWD pub
13:57:45 <<< 250 CWD command successful.
13:57:45 > CD minix
13:57:45 >> CD minix
13:57:46 >>> CWD minix
13:57:46 <<< 550 minix: No such file or directory.

And again it tells me there is no minix dir. So, where can I get Minix
upgrades? Or am I doing some foolish? If you want to blame me, answer directly
to myself :-). I you will only teach me, use the info-minix list :-D.

Thanks a lot for any help.

It's pub/Minix with a capital "M".

instead of BITFTP, try archive-server@plains. It might work better (but I
won't guarantee that).

On a related subject... Just a few days ago there was a cry for the
InfoSheet / FAQ. I only post it twice a month... should I go to weely? Is
that overkill? Is that often enough? :-) I usually put a month expiration
period on the info documents, and all new subscribers to the mailing list
get a "welcome" document that tells them about where to get Info.
