I'm having problems getting Minix 386 to come up. I purchased the Prentice Hall release (1.5.10), successfully applied the patches and compared the checksums. I made a 386 boot floppy with shoelace and it boots all the way to the point where init execs login. I see the "login:" prompt but it doesn't get any input from the keyboard. Eventually, login is suspended (pending keyboard input) and it never comes back. I'm having a hard time thinking of anything that could be wrong that wouldn't also be true of the non 386 setup. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated. Ken Seymour seymour@astech.ast.saic.com

I purchased Minix 1.5 a few weeks ago and have tried to upgrade it to Minix-386. I have got it to the point where I can boot Minix-386 off floppy and it seems to work ok, but some of the commands don't quite work right after recompiling them with the 32 bit compiler. 1) ps dumps core almost all the time. 2) who gives bad output. Only root should be logged on. The last line of this output looks like the only valid one. Does anyone know how to fix this? Are these symptoms of a more serious problem? Thanks! Robert RLM@Maine.Maine.edu
