Hello all, After playing with Minix on a borrowed machine for 9 months, I finally bought a machine of my own. Just for Minix! (Thanks Andy :-) ) Now comes the bad part. On the strength of seeing several VGA drivers out in netland, I got a machine with a mono VGA monitor. I had taken a set of boot disks with a minimal system on them with me to checkout machines. Except for floppy disk problems they all seemed to work great no matter what kind of monitor they had. But I didn't try to edit files.... Both mined and elvis are completely hosed with the VGA. The board can do mono text emulation, but you have to boot DOS to set it and I am not running DOS (and hope I won't have to, I didn't buy a copy). Since the command line works ok, I suspect that it is just a device driver/termcap issue, but really don't know yet. I have both the VGA driver from sauna and another one posted a few weeks back which I will try to build on the borrowed laptop this evening. Does anyone know anything about the problem? It doesn't look too serious, but it has the potential to suck up a lot of time I planned to spend on Bruce's 386 patches and other neat things like 386 patches for 1.6.16, gcc.... BTW: I have lots of books. References to places to look for information would be appreciated. If I don't have it, I will buy it. Thanks. -- Reginald H.
