From: jan%ruuinfvax.uucp@mcvax.bitnet Subject: Second International Workshop on Distributed Algorithms 2nd International Workshop on DISTRIBUTED ALGORITHMS Amsterdam(NL), July 8-10, 1987 Following the successful Workshop on Distributed Algorithms on Graphs in Ottawa(1985), the second Workshop of this kind will be held at the Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science in Amsterdam, July 8-10, 1987. The Workshop is intended to provide a forum for researchers and other parties interested in the design and analysis of DISTRIBUTED ALGORITHMS on communi cation networks and graphs. Aim is to present recent research results, explore directions for future research, and to identify common fundamental techniques that serve as building blocks in many distributed algorithms. Papers are sollicited describing original results in all areas of distributed algorithms and their applications, including e.g. - distributed combinatorial algorithms - distributed optimization algorithms - distributed algorithms on graphs - distributed algorithms for control and communication - routing algorithms - design of network protocols - distributed database techniques - algorithms for transaction management - fail-safe and fault-tolerant distributed algorithms and related fields . Intended contributors are invited to submit 5 copies of a detailed abstract (5- 10 pages) or draft paper to the organizational chairman Prof Jan van Leeuwen Department of Computer Science University of Utrecht P.O.Box 80.012 3508 TA Utrecht the Netherlands (email: mcvax!ruuinfvax!jan) by APRIL 15, 1987. Notification of acceptance follows by MAY 15, 1987. A copy of each accepted paper is due JUNE 18, 1987. The complete collection of accepted papers will be available at the Workshop to serve as working proceedings. Official proceedings will be published afterwards. ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITTEE Eli Gafni (UCLA, Los Angeles) Michel Raynal (IRISA, Universite de Rennes) Nicola Santoro (Carleton University, Ottawa) Jan van Leeuwen (University of Utrecht) Shmuel Zaks (the Technion, Haifa) FURTHER INFORMATION The Workshop will be held at the "Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica (CWI)", a national research facility (formerly known as "the Mathematical Centre") located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The CWI is easily reached by public transportation and features a large library, lecture rooms, adjacent parks & waters, easy parking etc. The weather in Holland tends to be good in early July, with temperatures in the seventees and eighties (F). The registration fee for the Workshop will be approximately 50 US dollars. Further details will be announced with the final program. The Workshop is held just prior to ICALP'87. (ICALP'87 takes place in Karlsruhe, West Germany, July 13-17, 1987. Karlsruhe is easily reached from Amsterdam in several ways e.g. by direct train.)
