The theory students' seminar is cancelled this week (20th), by consensus. A while back we tentatively decided to go ahead with the "small groups" proposal: groups of two or three students would read a set of papers related to some topic, under the guidance of a faculty member, and then present them. The papers would be distributed to the audience, and there would be a followup session of some sort, concerning both the presentation itself and ideas for further research related to the topic. Response from the faculty has been positive. What we need now is some suggestions from both the faculty and students concerning interesting topics. That is, each person should think of something they're interested in working on, and send mail to sjb@utcsri or postnews to ut.theory. You need not have some particular individuals in mind to work wih on the topic; right now we just want to generate as many ideas as possible. Assuming that soom enthusiasm is shown, we can go over the ideas and match up people with topics they're interested in at the next meeting. Some questions concerning the exact format of the presentations need to be answered by the students, but this should not be difficult. Thank you :stephen
