Smith" <CHSMITH@note.nsf.gov> Subject: reseach initiation grants The National Science Foundation program for Research Initiation Awards has been expanded to the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering. These awards are for researchers in tenure track positions who have never received research support from any agency of the Federal Government. The competition for these awards is amongst persons applying for research initiation grants only. The deadline for applications is January 15, 1988. The differences between these awards and regular grants are outlined below: At most $60,000 for 24 months will be awarded, $70,000 if at least $10,000 is for equipment. Overhead is limited to %10 of the total award. Institutions are expected to to make a substantial commitment to support the investigator's research. The proposal must contain a signed statement by the Department Head/Chair who specifies the institutional commitment.
