She was very careful not to have her disk pass through the X-Ray, so she hand carried it through the machine that detects guns. Guess what? Right! Th gun detector generates a strong magnetic field which "shredded" the files on the disk. We looked at the disk using Norton Utilities and there was distinct pattern of areas of the disk with corrupted files --file areas o both sides where the field passed through perpendicular to the disk. No, mayby the X-Ray field won't hurt, but the magnetic fields associated with the detectors sure do.
