[rec.photo] Can a color analyzer for prints be used as a low cost densitometer?

pete@octopus.UUCP (Pete Holzmann) (11/11/87)

A recent posting in rec.photo described how a B&W analyzer could be used as
a densitometer, simply by multiplying the time and ASA settings.

My question: can the same thing be done with a color analyzer to produce
density readings in some reasonable color space? If so, how? Would it be
reasonably accurate? Any recommendations on a good analyzer for this
purpose that doesn't cost two arms and both legs :-)?

Thanks for your help! If there is interest, I'll tell y'all what happens
as a result of my investigation!

Pete
